It is important for you to know that Arabica beans contain much less caffeine than Robusta and other hybrid beans which are commonly used in many coffee blends for extra caffeine. These Robusta and hybrid beans can contain up to 50% more caffeine. Exposure to heat also destroys caffeine and our beans are roasted to a Vienna or dark roast. This means that our beans are exposed to more heat, thus less caffeine, than say a ‘light’ roast coffee which would contain more caffeine. The rule is, the darker the roast the less caffeine.

Arabica beans are also known for their great robust flavor. It is considered the Premium bean in the coffee industry and the demand is high which makes it much pricier than other beans. In addition to high demand dictating price, the Arabica coffee bushes are very susceptible to disease and entire crops can be wiped out quickly causing the price for these beans to remain higher than all other beans. Of course, there are small price differences depending upon the region the coffee originated, altitude and whether it is organic, shade grown, and/or fair traded coffee.

For those of you that cannot take the caffeine, we have made this wonderful coffee also available in Royal Select Decaf water process, an all natural water process, allowing us to retain the organic certification. There no chemicals used in this process as opposed to the chemical processes commonly used, which typically involve the use of methane gas to decaffeinate the coffee beans.

A note about caffeine: Many people are accustomed to drinking instant processed coffee products that are just added to hot water. These types of instant processed coffees usually contain a nutriton facts panel that lists the amount of caffeine per serving. This is possible in the case of instant processed coffee because it is manufactured in large batches that can be tested and "adjusted" before the product is packaged for sale.

Farmacy Gourmet Coffee is a whole bean coffee that features Arabica coffee beans. The amount of caffeine in whole coffee beans can vary depending upon the age of the coffee plant, the ripeness of the bean when picked, the degree of roasting, and the soil in which the beans grow. As such, the only way to provide an accurate measure of caffeine content in whole bean coffee would be to anaylize each bag individually - this would of course be cost prohibitive. What can you do if you are concerned about caffeine? That's easy - you can adjust the levels of caffeine by varying the amount of Farmacy Gourment Coffee that you use to brew a cup of coffee.
